Corey's got his groove back. Can't imagine the research and work that goes into these. The way you "read between the lines" makes me wish I could send you back in time to get us the "low down" (and sometimes the "down low") on these now historical figures.

Derrick from Philly

Absolutely agree with way2sec. I enjoy these insights into the history of Black American popular culture and the personalities who made it all happen.

Oh, and, yes, Mr Brown was a beauty. It's something when a man is as pretty as his woman...or his whatever.

Hello Corey,

I continue to check out your blogs, and I always find interesting material!

I had known Lawrence Brown when he was with the Ellington Band in the late 1960s. But it was only after he retired that I became aware that he had been married to Washington. At first I regretted not have been aware of this when I knew him, so that I could have asked him about her. But through the years I eventually learned the side story, and I learned even more today reading your blog. With all this new information, I am really glad I never brought up the subject!

Corey, you really are doing an amazing job at all this, and I am glad that all your work is archived. I know a LOT about Ellington, but I had never seen a pic of Mildred Dixon until you posted it- good for you!

You wear me out. The level of research and detail to what you post = FIYAH! Keep on keeping on! I want to hear about JOYCE BRYANT and NINA SIMONE.

Greg

Damn dude you are some kind of awesome!
