Corey, I've collected signed Harlem Renassaince 1st editions for some time now and Harold's collection of "Negro memorabelia" as the New York Times called it upon his death in 1961 was well documented. In my collection, one of my treasures is his copy of "The Big Sea" signed by Langston, and his copy of "Caroling Dusk" with the inscription from Cullen that reads "For Harold, Who really doesnt deserve this book." Sincerely Countee, New York Oct. 25/27 makes me laugh everytime I reread it. As far as what was known about his relationship with Cullen at the renaming of the Cullen Collection, the rededication committee chair in 1973 was his sister Ivie. (I have an original copy of the program). We live in a time when physical attributes have the tendancy in this society to squash brain
power in importance but during his life Harold richly embodied Dubois' "Talented Tenth" concept. I'm glad he is being remembered and that I stumbled upon your blog.

@ David Thompson! And I am so glad that you have taken the time to submit your comment. I appreciate the story and the anectdote. So, ummm, who have you willed those SIGNED first editions too, sir?
