JUBILANT SYKES is one of my favorite singers! Sometimes I wish I could slap him for being so frickin' awesome. Despite the melancholy lyrics of George & Ira Gershwin's But Not For Me, here, he certainly lives up to his name. You KNOW that has to take some talent to pull off!
If you don't know - you need to know! In other words, try checking out the following CD'S to add to your collection: Jubilant (a brilliant collaboration of jazzed-up Spirituals with Terrence Blanchard) Wait For Me (an impressive cross-section of classic songs including a hauting version of blues legend Robert Johnson's In Love In Vain). Jubilation (with Christopher Pakening on guitar) is a book of Spanish & Brazailian-influenced songs that simply translate as stunning, and the newly reissued (from 1994) Jubilant Sykes Sings Copeland and Spirituals is certainly worth the purchase.
