She was a looker. She didn't look like that in "Norman, Is That You?" Redd Foxx would have had a Sanford-style heart-attack seeing her like this.

And its almost unimaginable that she went topless in the 40's. How bold. Awesomeness.

I love Van Vechten's work though. Especially his male nudes ... ;-) Oh, the stories that man could tell with all the stars and MEN he photographed (and screwed).

Corey

@Taylor! I concur with your statements about Bailey. I got a phone call from a relative late last night RAVING about Pearl being OFF THE CHAIN! I loved it! As for Van Vechten, we can say what we will about him, but THANK GOD for him, too! He preserved for posterity some of our most shining lights under his SPOTlight! And those who are so not well known, and this is one of the biggest blessings because I can think of some of those folk who are not represented by NO ONE and NO WHERE ELSE! The stories he could tell? Indeed!

Unfortunately, both he AND Bailey were too damned discreet for their own good!

Bob

Taylor's comments are only meant to be provocative and are not really sincere. As for PB's nude shots, they are ok, but nothing special.

Does anyone know why the topless shots were done especially in that day and time? Did she need the money or as they say, "for Arts sake"??
